It's been five months since I ordered my Black Limba topped X30 with satin finish, and I'm blown away by every quality of this amazing Emerald. While I think that a glossy finish makes the grain really pop, I went with a satin finish partially due to its uniqueness (mine is the only Emerald X30 with a satin finish in existence) and because I think it gives it a quiet elegance. Also, with a satin finish one doesn't have to be concerned with leaving fingerprints. The black limba's grain blends beautifully with the black carbon fiber back and sides and black GOTOHs...

Thanks Evan. Patience-wise I was doing fine until Simon posted the first picture. Then it was all over me...

Thanks again, Randy! I think it is useful to see the before and after of this one. I was expecting more contrast, based upon the before image. Not disappointed, though - I love the look that I ended up with!

It is a common observation how these veneers darken once sprayed. Does Emerald stain these prior or is that just what the poly does once sprayed on? On your guitar I actually prefer the more "espresso" look of the finished veneer but it is a bit jarring how much that sapwood strip darkened once finished. just goes to show that you can never pick to blonde of a raw veneer- they will always be darker/ richer.

No Staining.

Every cut of wood takes on the resin differently. Some remain quite consistent and others vary. It tends to depend on how much oils are in the wood and how porous they are.

Thanks, I really like the outcome, too - even if I expected it a little different. It has found a good home!

Chloe told me that the difference would not be as great, but I do not believe that they put any stain on at all, just clear coat.

That's a beauty. I don't know if this Kosipo/Amber X30 belongs to an AGF member, but it is also a beauty https://reverb.com/item/35151107-eme...coustic-guitar. Emerald sure does an amazing job with wood veneers...

Thanks, Evan and RP. Couldn't resist the Royal Ebony, esp with the latest neck/bridge redesign.

And wow...you're right about that Kosipo X30. That's stunning. Someone should snag that. The X30 has got to be a tone monster.
