I gave direct in recording a shot here , it's piezo then goes through a Taylor 524 IR.

That totally nails the genre. Really nice.

The sound you got was good and appropriate for the style. However, I can hear enough piezo 'tizziness' that it would distract me for more than a song.

As I posted earlier, I find it very usable for demos - even super high quality ones - but I would not use direct in recording for commercial release yet, especially solo guitar.

My thought was to redo one guitar using mikes. That might be enough to gently distract the ear, vs. having two guitar sounds with the same piezo sheen.

Since you are experimenting with IRs, I encourage you to try the Jon Fields/Cuki processes for creating your own IRs specific to your guitars.
I've made a few quick IRs with Jon's generator and gotten very usable results.

(Of course, ToneDexter is probably the leader in this area, and I use it, but it is an investment in time and money that isn't right for everyone.)

I think your recording sounds very nice. But you can always try it with mics and see which you prefer.
