John has a start on this one with the bending of the sides as well as the lamination of the heal and tail blocks. These provide function as well as some "purty-ness" when you look inside that hole

Busted. But its nice Formica, No?
In my opinion Formica is under appreciated as a tone wood. (Or tone whatever). Its very stable, rings like a bell when tapped and spills clean up easily. We may use Corian for the top.

Formica!
Formica B&S...
Good eye! Who would have thought? If I was getting a Formica guitar I would want the groovy mid century boomerangs outlines... haha Mike, I am so glad you and John are moving ahead on this! After all you have been thru, this will be a very nice reward! Cheers Paul

There may be a few who chuckle...but I'd call this a trend setting opportunity . At first, I really hoped nobody would notice that is was a "wood look-alike" and we could slip this under the radar, but you guys have good eyes ...should'a known

Beautiful Mike! Never has Formica looked so good with a cutaway!

Thanks Dennis. We've decided to "follow your lead" on this one and make it a deeper body OM. I currently own a guitar with a deeper body that is 13 fret cutaway, and I love everything about it...all of the elements make SOOO much sense to me. I love the way YOUR guitar is turning out and I really think this deeper element will add dimension to the tone without creating any difficulties getting my arms around the darned thing

Mike, this build looks like it could cost a pretty penny....Ceramic is pretty pricey, but if you went with porcelain, it looks good, but doesn't cost as much. Use if for the fretboard and headstock inlay at least and then then wear problem won't be an issue. I would not use it for the pick guard, maybe quartz is better there!!!!

Cool. I like how the cutaway was glued to the neck block first. It's coming together beautifully.

I have tried gluing the cutaway and the other side simultaneously while in the mold and never had much luck clamping things the way I felt they needed clamping. This is a simple solution once you get the block lined up right with the sides. Then the whole thing goes into the mold for clamping the other side and the tail block. (I guess that is obvious)

Here is a little peek at where the cutaway comes together. Many put a piece of trim wood there, but I think it is cool that John takes pride in bringing it all to a nice point there. I think he's added a little "juice" to it also to shine it up slightly.
Here are a few shots of some purfling considerations we are thinking through...
