Default Bashkin Placencia build: Cocbolo & Adi

Although the build is scheduled to start in August this year, I thought I would get the thread started so long. As a result of all the hours of research, discussions, listening to sound clips, e-mails and considerations I had when I was considering the first custom build (The awesome Cornerstone Zion), I decided to secure a few build slots and have more than the originally intended singular build commissioned.

One of the Luthier's who impressed me immensely and whose name was consistently mentioned during the process was Michael Bashkin and more particularly his Placencia OM model.

My brief to all the forthcoming luthiers has been that I wanted each build to be complimentary to the others that have already been completed. So in order to assist in this regard I forwarded my initial requirements, preferences and historic overview to Michael (and the others) as well as my initial and subsequent impressions of the Cornerstone Zion build. My recent "discovery" of the beautiful tonal appeal that a Classical guitar provides has also been communicated. Likewise I will continue to provide the same flow of information to the Luthier’s responsible for the remaining builds in the future.

Tonewoods are:

Back & Sides: Cocobolo
Soundboard: Adirondack Spruce

I am also considering Michael's Transparent Multiscale for this build.

The Cocobolo:

Nice choice Roy,

I've had my Placencia, 4 years and am very happy and my second Bashkin is all but finished, a hog redwood 00.
Your guitar must been in the next batch too mine.

Looking awesome...the pictures are nice, but the wood in person is even better! Looking forward to seeing this build...Congrats Roy!!

I would go for the multi-scale...the ones that I have played feel awesome and you quickly forget...I would have gotten it on mine if I had it in the budget

I forgot to mention that Mike (old6strng) took these pics of the Cocobolo for me when he visited to check out his Bashkin that was being built at the time. Thanks again Mike - much appreciated.

I am also negotiating "fees" for LarryJ and Mike to play this when it's finished and submit a review, soundclips and a video here before it is shipped over to South Africa when it's finished.

Never played a Bashkin, but after everything I've read and heard he's right at the top of my "must play" list!

You won’t regret it! They play like butter, very smooth and powerful sound! Very dynamic as far as tonal properties and volume.

Default Nice Cocobolo

Hi Roy:

That's gonna be a lovely guitar when finished ! Ive gone for a LS redwood top with Coco back and sides by Greg Gwaltney...should be ready by Christmas this year. I'll watch this thread with interest. I have a thread under Gwaltney LS redwood and Cocobolo.

Congrats
