Default Smelling the wood???

I seem to smell the wood a lot on my new Taylor-is this a common thing-don't get me wrong-it smells great-just a little curious and btw it's even beginning to sound better than it did at the shop after i tried a new set of D'darrio's.

Different tone woods have different scents. I love the smell of imbuia, cedar, and a good rosewood. It's the most pronounced when the guitar is new and then it settles down.

What kind of wood? I love the smell of Maple. Rosewood ain't bad. Sadly, Mahogany and Walnut don't really have much of an aroma.

I wish my J-200 still smelled like the day I got it. It was amazing.

Sometimes, when I don`t have time to play guitar, I open the case only to take a good sniff of my rosewood Taylor NS.

While (imho) nothing is as great as brazilian rosewood for smell, I would disagree that mahogany lacks. All of mine (mahogany guitars) have been distinctive and noticeable!

Nothing beats the smell from a Martin. Must be the cigar box (spanish cedar) kerfing they use.

It's like that "new car aroma"...unfortunately, it dissipates after a short time...I wish someone would invent a "new guitar aroma" product that I could just spray into my Taylor...
(note: I do find that when I keep my Taylor 810 in its case, the aroma returns a bit for a few minutes)...

I noticed the same thing when I opened up the case on my new Martin OM-15...

I found that my mahogany GS5 has a more pronounced smell after I keep it in the case overnight with a humidifier... and no, smelling your taylor is not weird

Of course there are other things in your case that do smell good as well - some polishes, and many glues. So it might not be *just* your wood that smells good!!

One of the downsides of waxing my guitar with Turtle Wax Express Shine... It has a strong scent and smelling my wood is not quite as pleasant as it once was. I have to agree with a previous poster though, Ovangkol smells nice.
