Sirwhale - I just put on my set of monel 12s. I can feel higher tension, which feels better to me on this one - different strokes, right? I think the tone is initially a bit warmer than the pearse nickels.

I like them slightly better so far, but we will see how it all plays out. That bit of extra warmth is a plus for me, as is the slightly higher tension. I felt like the pearse, on the short scale, were just a bit floppy for me.

I put Martin Retro Monels on my 522e about two weeks ago and I'm really pleased with the sound. This is an all mahogany guitar and these strings give it a very warm and woody voicing (sweet). The TI Plectrums they replaced were not bad at all either but I think the Monel's just bring out more of the warm/sweet voice. Based on that result, I'll probably try some Monels on my P12 when the Plectrums that are on it currently get some age on them. I'd also like to compare the Martin Retros to the JP Nickels. The positive comments on them in this thread have convinced me to get some for a test spin.

I have now been through several sets over the last few weeks of owning the Studio Parlor. I do some strumming but mainly finger style. My favorite has been the D'Addario EXP NY Steel 80/20 Custom light (11-52). I am better projection than with similar Elixirs. I needed a brighter string for my style of play, so I like the 80/20 better than phosphor-bronze.

I am curious if anyone has used the GHS Contact Core Bright Bronze on any guitar. I might order a set later--neither GC or the local shops carry GHS on the shelf.

I just put a set of the Martin Monel Retro Custom Lights on my P12 last night. Initial impression is good. The guitar is still bright but has good balance and clarity. These strings might not be as "warm" as the TI Plectrums they replaced (which had been on the guitar since mid-November). We'll see how they set over the next week. I am also using the Custom Lights on my 522e (all mahogany) and like them on that guitar.
