Default Deep River Blues

Hi Folks,

I’m trying out a new usb mic, a Shure MV 51 that plugs directly into my iPad or iPhone.

This 2 chorus instrumental is based on a Toby Walker arrangement. Making an effort to memorize some of the classics and then I’ll try for some variations

Thanks for listening.

Good job Bob!

That's a fun tune to learn, I used to play it back in my blues phase.

Have you looked at Mississippi Blues? Stefan Grossman has a lesson on it, really great one to learn and is on the same level as Deep River Blues (maybe a bit easier).

Thanks, Barry. I have thought about Mississippi Blues, it’s on my very long list Right now I’m occupied with Hesitation Blues, Saint James Infirmary, Avalon Blues (tricky) and Stagolee.....

I have “how to play blues guitar“ by Stefan and Rory Block and he tabs out part of Mississippi Blues. It is nice and slow on that recording so I won’t feel quite as bad as I usually do trying to keep up with Mr. Hurt

Very nice Bob!

I like that song much better as an instrumental piece, the way you are playing it. I have always liked this piece musically, but I was always repelled by the lyrics of "Deep River Blues."

Well done! And the recording sounds very good!

Thanks, Glenn! My wife isn’t a fan of the lyrics either, so I decided to leave out the vocal

Sounds good Bob. I am a big fan of this song, I think I heard it first done by Paul Asbell who I was fortunate to see twice and video at a small house concert many years ago. Lately have been enjoying the Jason Isbell Tommy Emmanuel collaboration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcbxsG3OWfA
I don't see anything objectionable in their lyric version but YMMV

Thanks very much, Mark! I’m a big fan of all three of those guys. As to the lyrics, I think it’s the part where the narrator says that his good old gal looks like a waterfowl that my wife didn’t like

Very nicely played. Thanks for posting. Regarding comments on the lyrics, I like to play and listen to solo instrumentals, but once in a while hearing the originals lyrics is good no matter what they are; kind of puts the song in its original context.

That's very kind of you, Chuck. I'm enjoying your contributions. Love that Spence piece you posted, may give it a go.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment

Thanks so much, ST1! Nice to hear from you again. You and your boy just popped up on my YouTube feed. He is getting really good on that electric! Don’t know if you are catching any of the World Series, but the guy who is programming the bumper music at the end of the innings is apparently a deadhead

Thanks. Good to hear you. The kid is putting in the hours.

I did notice the WS deadhead. We are everywhere. [emoji3][emoji3]
