I just put a set on my 00-18 yesterday. A little bright at first but so far I like them.

I think they're more slippery than Elixirs. I just bought a set of Elixirs for comparison sake.

I hope not .. Elixirs are the only coated string I have a problem with, all others are fine.

I find the opposite for me. I kinda miss the slick feeling with xs's that I get with elixirs. But they are not too far off.

Elixer Nanoweb mediums on the J41 - kinda fun to play all three at pretty much the same time.

As Silly Moustache alluded to, Martin's treated strings (NOT coated!) are an excellent alternative. I've been impressed with every set I've used on my HD-28. I recently put a set of their MA540T light gauge strings on that guitar for the first time (this particular guitar has only had medium or medium-light gauge strings). So far, so good! Very nice natural string feel, moderate tension and well-balanced.
Anyone looking for a good-sounding, long-lasting alternative to the slick Elixirs would serve themselves well to try Martin's treated strings.

I picked my Bourgeois up from being adjusted and he’d put a set of XS mediums on it. It sounds like it’s lost a tad of bottom-end, but the feel of them is GREAT! I’m going to see how they settle in before I make a final judgement.

I'm becoming a big fan of these strings. I still have the first two sets I've tried on both my guitars and have zero complaints. They still sound and look close to new. To me they don't feel as slippery as any elixers I've tried. I have not noticed any tuning issues. They are bright. Depending on the guitar that might be a drawback.

Just received my 999 points XS light gauge strings and fitted them on my 00 18.
First impression...way to slippery. We shall see how they settle in. Disclaimer: I am NOT an elixer fan for the same reason 4 days in... The 4 wound strings will not stay in tune. This seem VERY odd to me and I have never experienced this before. Lacking just a touch of bottom end. They remain too slippery for me. Bottom line, I will not purchase any...for the 999 points I used, a good experiment. Last edited by PeterM; 10-31-2021 at 11:43 AM. Reason: Update |

I've had a set of XS's on a J-45 for 5 months and I have to say that they have lived up to the hype so far. They don't appear to me, at least, to be slippery, so that's not an issue. They've stayed in tune nicely and still sound the way I hoped they would after this length of time on the guitar. My normal time before changing strings was ~ 2 months in the past so there is value for me cost-wise.
I have a slew of strings I want to try out but I can't justify removing these ones, especially at Can. $24! I like 'em. |

XS has become my favorite strings. Not slippery at all and have very good even tone that feels good to my fingers.

I just put a light set on my Yamaha FS5. They are pretty bright but I need to break them in before I decide if I like them. I had NB on before these and I like them a lot.
