SOLD . 1929 Gibson Model A Mandolin w/ohsc
Up for sale is my 1929 Gibson Model A Mandolin. One of the finest specimens out there today.
***Note: Basing the 1929 date on my appraisal from Gruhn, done in 2015. Previous date estimations include 1922 and 1927. Assuming Gruhn is the gold standard, I'll go with 1929.*** I'll use the wording from the appraisal for the best description. Lots of photos featured in this listing. ----------- The mandolin described below is, in our opinion, a Gibson model A made in the year 1929. Serial number 84995 is inscribed on the interior oval paper label visible through the soundhole and factory work order number 9345 is stamped in black ink on the neck block visible viewed diagonally through the soundhole. This instrument shows some normal finish checking, but appears to be in very good original condition. It conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made with symmetrical pear-shaped body, carved spruce top with oval soundhole and black finish, maple back and sides with dark walnut stain finish, mahogany neck, unbound ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, white binding on the top edge of the body and around the soundhole, adjustable truss rod in the neck, silver paint silkscreened The Gibson peghead logo, The Gibson embossed tailpiece cover, elevated nitrocellulose tortoiseshell grain pickguard with 1909 patent date stamped on the guard, height adjustable ebony bridge, four on a plate tuners with white oval plastic buttons, nickel plated I metal hardware, and original hard shell case. I've owned this for the past 30 years, and have barely played it, as my intent was more as a collector's piece. I have also just had a fresh setup performed by one of Nashville's finest. AGF PRICE: $OLD shipped/insured. Not interested in trades.

I am interested in this mandolin. It looks like it has very low action (which I like). Do all notes fret true without buzzing? Do the tuner buttons move freely?
How is the intonation? And what gauge strings is it currently set up with? Has it ever had any cracks or splits? I ask because the back looks like it has a bit of separation at the seam. |

Just wanted to chime in to say what a cool mandolin that is and how beautiful the scenery is behind the mandolin, my kind of land.
