A Lyrics Song for a Music Guy
Mining YouTube for new material to play, I came across this Chris Stapleton gem yesterday morning. I generally don't care about lyrics, just the music and the lyrics follow. What attracted me first was the riff and then the vocal harmony. Yeah, good solid stuff. But then the lyrics got me.
My wife and I accompanied our seventeen year old friend and companion, Rudy, to the vets last week to help him cross the Rainbow Bridge. When ever we play this song, it will be for Rudy. |

I'm all about the lyrics. John Prine, Steve Goodman, Jeffrey Martin, Joe Pug, Slaid Cleaves, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt....those guys can/could write circles around pretty music all day long. I haven't heard an original melody in 20 years, but every day I hear great new lyrics. OTOH I do love to listen to and play Hawaiian slack key and gypsy jazz, both of which are 90% pure instrumental.

Sorry for your loss.
I paused Paradise by John Prine to check this out & seriously just welled up & was overcome with emotion, listening to it. A little too lonesome for my Saturday morning, but thanks for posting.
