Default $5,000 Taylor

Wow. I stood in awe.

900 series. Locked up, but beautiful. What craftsmanship. It was like a fine piece of furniture.

There was also a couple of 800 series locked up next to it, both completely blinged out as well, $3,000 to $4,000. Nice looking stuff.

An X-braced 916ce is the best sounding Taylor I’ve ever played! Killer guitars.

I spent my working life in the furniture business and I don’t think there’s many pieces of furniture that will compete with the aesthetics of a 900 series Taylor especially for 5K. I’m not a Taylor affection-ado but anyone can see they build some of the most beautiful guitars in the industry.

I’m sure that it’s pretty (and expensive)...but how does it sound?

What he said. ^^^

In my opinion, the GS models add the bass that's just a little understated in the popular GA models.

For my taste, the 914ces and the K14ce builder's editions are the prettiest guitars available.

I played a 914ce for my husband and he and I were both impressed with the sound and the beauty. He insisted I get one. I am lucky I have such a supportive husband. I wanted it purely acoustic and without a cutaway, so I ordered a 914 from Ted at LAGS for a great price. I absolutely love it!

My 900 series Taylor with BWR has an amazing sound. I'd put it up close to my Olson but that would almost be sacrilegious.

That's a lot of dough for a bunch of bling. I'd rather spend that kind of money on an independent luthier's guitar, getting a much better guitar for the money. Bling is simply eye candy and does not really contribute to making it a BETTER guitar. IME.

I find that guitars with bling tend to sound better.

I was never a fan of bling. Then I set my eyes on the K14 BE and changed my mind. It was the tone and play-ability that really drew me in though. I wouldn't buy a guitar just for the visuals but if you can have both, why not?

It's not just bling with the 900 series Taylors. I've played several 900 series and owned a few 800 series and the 900 models are really great guitars. The last time I A/B'ed two models back to back(both X-braced) was an 816ce DLX and a 916ce and while they were both fantastic, the 916ce had an overall better sound and tone to it. My D-41 was "hands down" better overall than several HD-28's I auditioned. YMMV, IMHO, etc.

Even two supposedly identical guitars usually sound a bit different from each other.

I used to enjoy a bit of bling on my guitars (case in point, my old Larrivée LV-19 SVE - more than a bit of bling, actually ) but after owning guitars that were predominantly made of wood for all the trimmings I came to realize I prefer the overall simplicity of the look, for me, personally. Kind of fits in with my aesthetic preference for vintage Stickley furniture. And, the bling did not make the guitars sound better, it's just eye candy.
