Default My first Gretsch... I'm liking it!

Just got this new Gretsch 5422T in Vintage Orange... can't put it down and can't wait to gig with it!

I recently bought a 5420 and I love it. I did need to do a little setup, including adjusting the neck relief, lowering the action at the nut, and installing a set of D'Addario ECG25 flat-wound strings, but now it plays and sounds great.

Tuning with the Bixby takes a little longer and is a little more finicky than tuning my Martin acoustic, but it's not a big problem.

Enjoy!

Your pic isn't posting - and while I know exactly what you've got, some other folks may not be familiar so here's a few more photos:

Y'know, I've always preferred the looks of the post-1962 double-cut 6120 (AKA Nashville) - I remember the Zombies used one when I saw them live in late '64 - but it seems the market favors the single-cut version, and the Professional Series reissue fell by the wayside when it was reintroduced over a decade ago; shame, because they're lighter and easier-handling than the Country Gent with comparable tone/features - and this one has the added advantage of significantly lower cost...

Hope you've got a nice tube amp to go with it - use it well, often, and LOUD...

And it begins...welcome to “that great Gretsch sound”. You’ll never be the same.

Well said. Everyone needs a Gretsch or two. At least.

Welcome to the club!

At least a half-dozen of us electric guys that I can account for over the last month or so, going back in the archives will probably turn up more - and don't forget all the Acoustic Forum guys who bought Jim Dandys a few years ago, as well as a few New Yorker archtop and Boxcar/Alligator/Bobtail/Honeydipper reso owners...

I sold my Les Paul a year or so ago to find something with more character and what I found was a '67 6120 Chet Atkins Nashville, double-cut with the original Filtertron pickups. What a fabulous old guitar (binding rot not withstanding). Great neck too. And on top of being a truly great sounding electric guitar, who can beat that orange body? After George Harrison showed up playing a Country Gentleman on the Ed Sullivan show, a lot of '60's acts started playing Gretsch's (Stephan Stills and Neil Young being good examples) so there is a lot of that Gretsch sound knocking around in the 60's and early '70's music. And you have to love the Bigsby too.

Count me in as a recent Gretschie. Started with a 5422t in Caddie green, to which I added a 5420t in classic orange. Not sure which one I like best. There may be a Junior in my future. Not as heavy.
Nothing like that sound. I’m using a Vox AC10.

Congrats! I don't have a Gretsch but the past few months they've skyrocketed in popularity here on the AGF. Peaking my interest. Enjoy.

Tried a white 5422TG "Baby Falcon" (the upscale version of your Caddy-green "Junior Viking" 5422T) through a Vox AC10 last year, when our band went on a shopping trip - pulled out all my pre-Rubber Soul George Harrison licks...

If you're a fan of early Beatles stuff, it just doesn't get much better than this - and certainly not for anywhere near the price...

Mine is a 2018 G5420TG in white, which I'm playing through a Bugera V22 Infinium amp (recommended to me by Steve DeRosa). I did replace the V22's stock Chinese tubes with JJ tubes.

BTW, Guitar Center now has the G5420TG on sale for $699.

Just sold my 5230 Airline silver to fund the Rosa Red 5620 that’s incoming. It’ll be a great match to my other 5620 and my 5622. The tones through my Vox MV50 clean that’s on my live rig, or, my lacquered Tweed BJ is stellar with every Gretsch I’ve run through them.

I’ve owned a first gen V22, a recent V22, and V55. They’re truly great amps. I did give the 55 to my father and he absolutely loves it. I’m sure with tube upgrades they’re even better. All around versatile amps.

I’m considering an AC15 at some point. No real “need”. Just inquisitive I suppose.

I kinda thought you would - just a matter of when...

BTW, check out the AC10 if you haven't done so already - sounds great with the Blacktop Filter'tron/Super Hi-lo'Tron 5400/5600's, not too much difference in terms of real-world power, and a whole lot lighter (on both the back and the wallet) to boot...

They got a couple in at the Music and Arts store where I take lessons. It is very tempting, though I think I am safe for at least a couple of months, due to some other things I need to buy.

But . . . just curious, mind you . . . how do they sound with Princeton Reverbs?
