Default Anyone use a "Find my Phone" type App?

Out at the lake yesterday running the new puppy.
Covered maybe two miles of lake beach.
Back at the truck, SO has lost her phone...
Couldn't even call it as her ringer was turned off for a doctor appt.
Long story short, we found it.
Would have been much easier with some sort of GPS assistance.
I tried a google search but reviews were bad for most of them.
Thanks!

We use Apple's Find My app but I know people who use other solutions I consider more invasive than I'd like. It's been great for personal safety, travel logistics and finding devices including headphones.

To find a misplaced phone I just use the feature built in to Apple Watch. That ping sounds even if you have the phone's silence switch on. More and more I also just don't take the phone with me unless I want the camera or certain features. The phone feature in the watch works very well.

What is "more invasive"?

Yes, most times I don't care about phone calls.
But the camera sure comes in handy.

Couple thoughts: 1. you mention Google search. Does that mean you are using an Android phone? If you are, she just needs to log into her google account and click on find phone and the map will show you where it is (or was before the battery died).

2. Check with your carrier. Many have a service, often free, to tell where it is.

3. All Apple products can take advantage of the Apple find my phone app, including iPods, iPads, etc. even if they are under a different acounr/Apple ID, a different user could use someone else's iPhone and log into that app and find their Apple device.

Find my Phone works great. If you have an Apple phone, there's no need for anything else.

Look into Tile. They are Bluetooth enabled tags that links to your iPhone. I put one on my keychain and another in my wallet. They are designed to help you if you lose other items (the app on the phone shows last known location and an icon that tells you if you’re “getting warmer” if you can’t hear the tag chiming) but the tags also have a button that will make your iPhone ring. I’m not sure what the range is but I always keep location sharing on so that I can trouble my wife to locate my iPhone.

My kids could choose to turn off some features. Apple holds less or randomizes data that others do not. Some I know disagreed with me but we chose to let our kids have privacy and independence I don't see all kids getting these days.
