This is really cool, Ryan. I’m looking forward to seeing this guitar when it’s finished. You know I’m a sucker for seahorses...and the rest of the undersea critters are amazing too.

Let me contribute a pic or two of this (almost) matched pair soon going to Miami Guitars.
Both use Adirondack for the tops, and quilted maple for backs/sides/necks.
One is bound in Koa, and sports an arm bevel and cutaway.
The other is bound in Brazilian rosewood. Both use Paua abalone for rosette and top purfling:

Thanks Tom! I've had these sets lying around the shop for years, just waiting for the chance to sing. It's gratifying to finally use something that caught your eye a couple of decades ago.

More Maple for everyone! Woohoo... your B.I.G. guitars were even more beautiful than the pics show. And they sound FANTASTIC, too.

I am EXTREMELY HAPPY with your brother's Maple OVERLORD! I look forward to the day when Maple is as well regarded as any high end tonewood. These instruments should help in that regard!

You guys are wizards!

Have fun

Paul

Thank you Joel, I am as well. It's startling the way quilted maple comes alive under finish. It's always fun.

Sometimes it’s like the Ford factory around here. You can get your Kinnaird in any color as long as it’s black.

Glad you’re going to make it Doug! You’re going to love the area.

Here’s a shot of a back of a Guild D-55. In 1968, Guild built a prototype line of 13 original D-55’s. They were of different species of backs through the line, but this one (#9 of the 13 from 1969) is Brazilian Rosewood. It’s a purty piece of wood.
