Why does Ranker edit out certain words?
I keep up with a few of Ranker-powered websites. I've noticed that they edit out any words that have to do with death, killing, murder, etc. Here's just one of many examples of their writing (Breaking Bad content):
"It's really about serving this crucial moment, which was going to be so important to all of these characters - what happens next after an innocent bystander was [taken out]?" .... I asked them to [end] me. Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to coming back and doing the part. It's really difficult to pull off. They were like, "We want you to come back and do eight more episodes." And I said, "No. I'll do one more and that's it. You guys have to [end] me." They're like, "We never heard of an actor that wanted to [leave]." And I'm like, "You don't understand. This part's really hard." ... I'm very proud of that legacy. I feel very lucky to have such an extreme [exit]. Is it a cultural thing? For example, is there a population at people who are highly offended at words like kill, death, murder, etc.? Or is there something else at play here? This article is not unique. It's this way all over their websites. As far as I can tell, it has nothing to do with cursing because they edit those in different ways. |

I think Ranker-powered was the wrong phrase. Ranker-sponsored/published maybe?
Anyways, here's a few offshoots of their website: https://www.ranker.com/tags/weird-history https://www.ranker.com/tags/graveyard-shift https://www.ranker.com/tags/total-nerd I like their articles much more than the lists to be voted on. |

I don’t know Ranker but I feel everyone should be offended by murder and killing. Whether they edit content on their sites, or not, I can’t say. I am also offended by unnecessary censorship.
