Default Gibson Duo Super Medalist

I have one of these I picked up about 20 years ago.

Just curious to see what they are worth now and found this:

https://www.sweetwater.com/used/list...s-1964-to-1967

Is this guy out of his mind?

"Amp says its a Gibson from Kalamazoo Michigan.

The selling price is $32,000 U.S.

Plus an additional $250 for shipping."

This guy too:

https://us.letgo.com/en/i/1964-gibso...c-21ef5e232444

"I'm selling this for $28,000 cash US.

If you do not like my price shop elsewhere."

I gigged with a Duo Medalist in the late 70's. I moved on as soon as I could afford something better.

Price wise, that is absolutely ridiculous!

You'd think that for 32k you could get free shipping.

Does seem a little pricey. Maybe he confused it with the listing for his Dumble.

Had a 4/10 medalist in the early 70s. You could etch steel with it and a Telecaster on the bridge pickup......
Definitely moved on as soon as I could.

They are pretty trebly. However, I have always had an EQ pedal in front of it, which is a simple solution to tame it.

I think those two listings are the same guy. He's trippin' for sure. A buddy of mine acquired one in a trade with some other stuff back in the early 70s...absolutely atrocious, and another failed solid state amp from the late 60's.

I guess some people think that if it is "vintage" or "rare" it must be worth the moon & stars, and as to "rare", there's often a very good reason for that.

I wouldn't say they're atrocious. Just way on the treble side. I have an EQ pedal in front of mine and it's not bad. The reverb and tremelo sound great actually.

There's always the option of changing the tone circuit too which wouldn't be that hard.

They are most definitely two different listings, by the way. Unless the person selling it moved.

Probably a good match for a big-body jazzbox with built-in humbuckers, like Gibson's own L-5CES/Super 400CES/Tal Farlow/ES-175 from the same era - clean sound (as in no tube breakup), keeps the neck pickup from getting muddy, has a classic "bandstand" look like a latter-day '39 Epiphone Electar Century amp...
