Any PRS (electric) fans here?
Any PRS electric guitar fans here? Or non-fans? I haven't played enough to form an opinion but there's an S2 Singlecut at the local shop that I hopefully will get to play tomorrow.

I've worked on a few, and usually play each one for a couple of hours while finalizing the setups.
Factory setup is uniformly very good, but I can usually squeeze a little improvement out. The pickups on the non-US made ones are decent, a little midrange heavier than I prefer but that's just my ear talking. I don't think they fall cleanly into either the Gibson or Fender camp for tone. The cast bridge/tailpiece usually intonates well, but trying a wound G can be, well, interesting. Wood choices, fit, and finish are beautifully done across the whole line. My one dislike is the neck profile. My big mitts most prefer the American Fender shape, with the fatter Gibson necks like the ES-335 I have as a close second. Totally a product of my hand geometry, though. Friend of mine that owns 3 loves the shape over all others. Overall, very nice guitars. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Any PRS (electric) fans here?
I have an S2 Mira I like. Lightweight, comfortable to hold and play, and sounds good to my ear.

I have a great Custom 24, and I have played others. PRS does make a wonderful instrument, that unfortunately, gets bashed a lot, probably by jealous Fender/Gibson owners (no offense to those who like those, but why diss another superb maker?
I have never had the chance to try and S2, but I would assume they are well built as they are made in PRS' US factory. I bought mine for a recording project that never came to be, so I have it on the block (I primarily play acoustic guitar and bass).

I've had 5 PRS electrics over the years and hold 3 in my herd now: a 58 Singlecut Artist with the revered 57/08 pickups, a McCarty in korina, and a Zach Myers SE semi-hollowbody with Harmonic Design Z-90 pickups. All three are absolutely stellar guitars and stand in nice contrast to the 4 vintage reissue Fenders I own (2 Teles, 2 Strats). Below is the SC58:

Glen (^), wow, what a stunner!!! Is there any rhyme or reason to the way PRS names/numbers their pickups?
Ernie (^^), please post a pic if you can. |

I have about 8 of them, made in USA.
The best player is a 1994 CU 24, w/ maple neck/rosewood board. This has a perfect neck carve and size for my hands The best sounding prs guitar I have is a 1998 McCarty model. Their production electric guitars are extremely well made compared to many of their competitors. Over the past year I've sold 6 others out of the collection. Resale held up quite well for me. |

I have a collection of older PRSi, mostly from the nineties....
I think they are some of the best production electric guitars out there. Originally designed with the ability to produce a nice combination of single coil and humbucker sounds, they are set up so well that they almost play themselves.... I would love to grab some of their newer models, including the Vela and the 594. |

Wow, what a beautiful quilt, Ernie. What does DSLR mean? I'm still trying to understand some of the PRS nomenclature.

I found this pic of my first PRS - Artist Package Singlecut Trem with some really nice flames. Sold it a few years back only because I had accumulated close to a dozen guitars and played very little. A real player (as opposed to a wanna be player like me ) in Arizona made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It broke my heart but I had to let a few go. SCT Close by sage972003, on Flickr

I believe the first number represents the year of pickup they're trying to emulate and the second number is the year of production. The 57/08s are 2008 makes of a 57 PAF-style humbuckers and PRS nailed it. I've played SD Seth Lovers and the Fralin Pure PAFs (but not in this guitar) and like the 57/08s better than both.
