Maybe that’s true of Juston. I starch my salads and use large tined forks to hold my jeans up.

The Dedication
There’s a hidden part of every guitar that contains a little bit of the craftsman’s soul. It’s on the inside. And if you’re lucky enough, sometimes you get to see it.

The back is being pressed onto the sides.

We decided that foam blocks would produce an airy tone, but cinder blocks ran the risk of flattening the tone (tongue firmly planted in cheek).

There’s something awe inspiring about a simple guitar label and how it represents a pivotal moment in a guitar’s creation. It’s as if we are saying, “before, this was merely a collection of wood pieces, and now, it is a musical instrument“
F845A6FF-9D12-4AA3-A0FB-0DD9889CA389.jpeg The color of this mahogany just wows me and it will be interesting to see the finish evolve. If you haven’t heard it, do a search for Michael Bashkin’s “Luthier on Luthier” podcast. He hasn’t interviewed Dale yet, but it’s only a matter of time; I love hearing the life stories of these folks and how they ended up building guitars. For me, much of that interest in lutherie follows from my own path. Back in college, I purchased the seminal Irving Sloan work, “Building the Classical Guitar”, and pored over it endlessly. Eventually, I built three dulcimers and pondered whether to attempt to build a guitar. The learning process was radically different in the 1970s. It was mentioned in another thread, Richard Hoover’s comment that “the ‘Whole Earth Catalog’ was our internet. Being in my 20s, I had the luxury of time. I could go up to Hinsdale NH and shop at the Gurian factory; I had developed a network of woodworkers that I could drop in on; and Fine Woodworking Magazine had just been established about 40 minutes down the road. It occurs to me that these build threads provide a vicarious thrill and bring me back to a time when so many life paths were possible. I swear, looking at these photos, I can smell the mahogany. 744DD686-D009-4958-B641-D4ABC5364FAB.jpg P.S. I can see the reinforcement where the arm bevel will be. I had an interesting back and forth with Dale about the subtleties of that element. It’s not as simple as shaving down with a sharp plane. Reinforcement of the area and the handling of the binding need to be taken into account.

I totally missed the arm bevel part! I don't think I've ever seen that feature on this style of guitar.

it was a special request, Dave (for arm comfort). I discovered the Pearse armrest many moons ago and didn’t want to have to slap one on my new Fairbanks. This piqued Dale’s interest and as much as he has this wonderful line of Gibson inspired instruments, he’d love to expand his repertoire. We even talked about a wedge!

Takes the words right out of my mouth! That is stunning... really beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen a piece quite like that. Just gorgeous! I'm happy for you.

Dale just let me know that he bought two 1000 label rolls early on in his building career and noted, “Guess my ambition exceeded my output.”
Or maybe he’ll have a legacy like Guild Guitars some day: A South Windsor Fairbanks, a West Hartford Fairbanks, a Shelburne Fairbanks!

I asked Dale how he intended to finish it and he quickly replied, "Clear, no tint required here."
