Non-arched (or profiled) resonator cover plates?
Hi,
Every once in a while I try to take a flatpick to my Gretsch resonator and find I'm as much tapping rythm on the cover plate as I'm playing the strings. Even with finger picking I sometimes feel I could get a fleshier sound close to the saddle if the cover plate didn't arch up so closely to the strings. AFAICT I don't have a collapsing cone; action is fine and hasnt changed. So I wonder if there exist compatible aftermarket cones that are flat OR are lowered under the strings. I'd prefer that as it would still allow me to use a pencil to jack up the strings so I can adjust compensation I don't see any reason for the arching of this plate; the biscuit could just as well stick out a little bit or sit flush with the plate, as far as I can see. |
