When I was preparing for a shoulder replacement a few years ago, I asked Doc Sawbones if he would give me the section of arm bone he'd be sawing off. I wanted to have guitar saddles and nuts made from it, I explained. None of the pieces would be big enough, he said, and I'll have to trust him on that. he did get a kick out of the question. I think it put me on his "most memorable patients" list.
