[Max Spohn]

I recently delivered my latest OM-C to The North American Guitar.
While I am truly satisfied with the outcome, I had a hard time letting it go. Luckily the guitar found a new owner soon.

And another guitar got delivered to its new owner so it's time to share some pictures with you.

This is my MD-C model in Madagascar Rosewood and Swiss Moon Spruce.
The inlays as well as the backstrap of the headstock are made of lichen.

Wow, that is amazing Max! The lichen is a really cool look. How is that to work with?

Lichen, very interesting. I thought it was treated copper. I know Joel Michaud uses that material a lot -- but I've never seen lichen used until I just googled it and apparently folks are now using it for inlay. It's quite a nice look !!!

Is it set in epoxy or some medium prior to finishing?

Thanks Tom! It is relatively easy to cut and sand but you have to be extremely careful not to sand through the lichen as they are very thin. But I think it was worth the extra work.

I try to avoid the materials that get associated with other luthiers and instead try to find new materials that haven't used in guitars before. The idea of using lichen came during a walk in the woods around my hometown. But it reminds me of patinated copper a bit too.

Yes, it is set in epoxy before inlaying it which was a bit tricky to do. But it gives the lichen a lot of depths.

I thought it is time to share a couple more guitars with you I finished this year before the year is over.

This short scale OM-C got delivered to its customer a couple months ago.
It features a Bearclaw figured Swiss Moon Spruce top and English Bog Oak for the back, sides, fretboard, bridge and headstock overlays.
The inlays are made of the stone phyllite.

The baritone guitar I built along with the OM-C has been delivered too.

It is based on the one I built for Don Latarski and even features woods cut from the same billets.
The top is Bearclaw Swiss Moon Spruce and the back and sides feature some amazing Quilted Mahogany.
