Default "All I Have To Do Is Dream" cover

This is my cover of the classic Everly Brothers song, "All I Have To Do Is Dream," released as a single in April 1958 when I was just 10 years old. I remember listening to this song on the radio all summer long that year.

I am finger picking the song on my Olson SJ rather than strumming it as the Everly Brothers did. I also added the vocal harmony part.

You'll notice that the song is in the key of E. I believe this is the original key that the Everly Brothers used. The verse is the progression of E, C#m, A, B, but I am not playing the A and B chords as barre chords but, rather, leaving the high E and B strings open. (The song can be played much easier, still in the key of E, but putting the capo on the 4th fret and playing the song as C, Am, F, G.) The bridge ("I can make you mine... etc) progression is A, G#m7, A, B, A, G#m7, F#, B.

I find the expression "gee whiz" pretty interesting, kind of an expression of the generation before me. I don't think I have ever used "gee whiz" in my every day language, but the use of "gee," likely a shortening of gee whiz, is fairly common in my age group.

I think the harmony of the Everly Brothers inspired so many music groups to come later -- The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, and so many others. 25-30 years ago my wife and I used to do a medley of Everly Brothers songs in some of our performances, and we always started with "All I Have To Do Is Dream." It seems that most people know this song -- it was a huge hit way back.

Thanks for watching!

Love it, Glen! One of my favorites and a great performance as always, my friend. I do Bye Bye Love regularly and people of all ages seem to know that one too. Timeless music!

Hi Marty!

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! Yes, I do "Bye, Bye Love" and "Wake Up Lil' Suzie" and others, also. I'm glad you enjoy performing their music! The Everly Brothers had a string of great hits way back when we were young. I intend to record a few more Everly Brothers songs for YouTube.

Merry Christmas to you! I hope 2019 is a good year for you!

Ok, to avoid being repetitious, I'll give a grade card on this one,

Arrangement: great
Playing great
Singing great
recording great
production great.

Ok, so it is still repetitious, but at least I changed my format. Great as always Glenn, I thoroughly enjoyed that! And like everyone, I love that song!

It's still a big hit with me! I have always loved that song and your arrangement and execution is wonderful, Glenn. Thanks so much for playing the oldies!

Hi Mike,

I love your grade card! I have always striven to get A's, but in the world of video production, that can be hit or miss. Thank you so much for your kind words, your clever grade system, and your support. I am so appreciative! And I am so glad you like how this came out. This song has been a favorite of mine for so very long, really since I was a kid!

Thanks so much for your comments and your kind words!

Hi David!

I'm so glad you like this song and like how my performance came out! Funny, I don't even think of this song as an oldie, but of course, IT IS! Mostly, though, I just think of it as a great example of a classic pop song from the very early years of rock-and-roll when everything seemed so innocent. And I have always loved their sweet harmony!

I am so pleased that you like this! Thanks so much for your comments!

The first time I heard this, my mom and dad were doing it as a duet.
Great job Glenn, and great memories!

Definitely a great job. I especially liked that the vocal harmony was very like a second individual singer, with its own characteristics & phrasing, yet what you would expect in a close duet. The Everly Brothers had some stellar material, still incredibly listenable after over a half-century.
