Kevin was kind (and patient!) enough to let me peruse a bunch of other woods they use, and gently nudged me toward Padauk. At first I glazed over it because the grain pattern isn't all that interesting. You may have the same reaction to the piece I just selected:
But then he sent me a photo of a finished one. Behold: I was instantly smitten AND it lets me have the red back/sides I prefer. So NOW the waiting officially begins!

i'm hooked on a non-straight-across fretboard bottom. been tinkering with contours. what y'all think of (roughly, thumb-drawing) this?

Do you like the frets like that? I think Loar makes some fretboards similar to that. I've always liked the subtle detail on the end of a Gibson Songwriter Deluxe fretboard.
