That's beautiful. I'm not a finger-style guy but I listened to it three times in a row. Well, still listening...

Great to see and hear Kujira (Whales) played by Shun Komatsubara, the composer of this piece. Kujira has special significance for me because it was the fingerstyle piece that spurred me to transition from a purely classical guitar repertoire to a mixed bag that includes numerous modern steel-string guitar arrangements. Since there was no notation/tab available for this piece at the time I figured it out from listening to and watching the video. Ultimately I've changed the piece a bit to fit my style and temperament and hope to record my version soon with whale sounds incorporated.
Thanks for the original post, TBman! |

Glad to learn the name of this player. He sounds a lot like the Isato Nakagawa to me especially in some of the voices chosen for that piece. Really pretty. Also those somogyis sound amazing capoed up because they have so much depth and dimension on the low-end that it seems to add so much to the high register.

I found a guitar tab (guitar tab pro) for this in standard turning, does that sound correct?

Here's Sungha Jung's version. With the correct tuning established the following video shows workable fingerings. Hope this helps. |

I'm assuming there's not a proper tab in that tuning you mention for purchase somewhere?

Not that I've been able to find. That said, I'm planning on getting my own notation/tab done (GP6) over the next week or so. My version is a bit different than the original (all my arrangements are) so it may not be literal enough for you. However; if you think it would be helpful just PM me with your email and I'll send you copy.

I found the version in standard as well. You can probably change and tweak it to get the correct tuning. I haven't learned it yet, but if it is playable (in standard) I don't see any point in changing it as the original is played with a capo on 2 anyway.
