Well, Jim - I've admired your music a lot too for a long while! I've just tried again to get your player to open on myspace and it just sits there saying it's "connecting..." Are you member of Soundclick? The have great player and store widgets that you can embed on myspace and all over the place - per my own site.

Anyway, just sent you a friend request!

[Edit: as to poking fun at Americans: my hearts not really in it - I'm too big a fan of Americans.]

Cheers!

This is by far the most interesting thread I've read in awhile!

By the way Jim, your explanation of the way you "approach" these tunings is by the far the most articulate explanation I have read or heard yet about using alternate tunings. From one educator to another, nicely done

Now back to the digression - Any one want to take a shot defining Druid music?

Awwww go ahead, it is the politically correct thing to do throughout the world nowadays anyway!
Wot? No way. I'm a fan of Americans and things American because of my love for her music - blues, jazz and what her players have done with music from these isles, eg fiddle music and bluegrass - and American songwriters are the ones I admire the most - Joni Mitchell, Loudon Waingright, Dylan, Paul Simon, Cole Porter, Brian Wilson... - classical composers such as Charles Ives, Howard Hanson, Samual Barber (violin concerto is a hearbreaker) - and the guitars I play were invented, designed and built by Americans.

The last time I was politically correct was when I voted in the last UK general election.

Please don't just say "blues". There's Delta , Piedmont, Chicago, and a wealth of very specific styles. And is the "fiddle music" you mentioned Old time, Bluegrass, Newgrass, Texas Swing, It's important to differentiate

Well I'm new to the board and doing a search on alternate tunings this thread turned up.

Personally, I find alternate tunings fun to play in. I am currently writing a tune in D Wahine (DADF#BD) pretty cool tuning.

Sometime there are sounds I hear in my head I can't find with standard tuning.

I would probably be a better player if I would concentrate more on just playing in standard, but I wouldn't have as much fun..

Besides... it confuses the heck out of friends I play with.....
