Default Lava Me 2: The "selfish" guitar

Today I tried the Lava Me 2 guitar [Not the pro],

I know I should post that in the General sub-forum but I do not consider this guitar as a real "acoustic" guitar.

In fact, the tone from the audience perspective is harsh and displeasing.

On the opposite the tone from the player perspective is full and well balanced. I guess it is related to the soundhole position. I would call it a selfish pleasure guitar.

I write this post on the Amplification thread because the pluggin sound is really great. TheNot the L2 pickup [Not the Baggs] I tested was quite impressive.

It has a built-in mic, you can dial-in and on-board reverb and chorus.

You can achieve really great tones just blending some mic, reverb and a touch of chorus.

The only drawbacks are:
* Harsh acoustic tone from the audience perspective
* Finish is slippery, especially with the square shape
* narrow nut. Felt like 1-11/16" (it is indeed)

Thank you for that, Cuki! I was looking forward to see some of those Lava around here. It seems to be a very light and pratical performance guitar.

Hi Rodrigo,

I am not sure it would match your style... Bit too square. I have hard time imagine you with something else than an HD-28...

Can't picture the same video with a big orange square on your thighs

They aim the guitar for a cold modern kind of style.

Your music is all about warmth... I'd stick to wood at least visually...

my 2 cents,
Cuki

I think I might have had luck, then. The HD28 was a choice I made without think or know anything about acoustic guitars. I just got a money that I made in two years giving muay thai lessons, and got me the most beautiful acoustic guitar I could find in a store. Hahahaha! I'm glad it matched with my style... or I made my style maatch with the guitar, I really don't know.

Thank you, Cuki!

Thanks for the review, even though this sub-forum did not seem to be your first choice to post it in.

We have been discussing Lava Me guitars here previously but I believe this is the first time a bad acoustic tone from the audience perspective is mentioned.
I wonder, does that include the acoustic tone with Freeboost on? I'd expect reverb and chorus should be able to take away some of that perceived harshness.

Regarding soundhole position, I don't think that could be the culprit though. After all, McPherson guitars have soundholes in the same position and they are considered to be great sounding guitars, both the wood and carbon fiber models.
Emerald guitars with their even more offset soundhole are also loved for their acoustic tone.

Anyway, glad to hear you like the plugged in tone so much better.
