Red-eye effects loop question
Hi everyone,
I have a red-eye on the way and I'm going to put a couple of pedals in the effects loop. I was just planning on using standard patch cables but I was chatting to a guy who was saying I would need Y splitter cable and then he went into more detail and I was nodding along but I was lost. There would be two pedals in the red-eye loop, a reverb and an eq. Do I need any special cables? Sorry for the dopey question. I'm new to this and any google search is all about amplifier effect loops. |

What you need is an “insert cable”. A single TRS connector to two TS connectors. Like this:
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...inch-ts-3-foot But this is 3 feet, you probably only want like 6 inches. Or possibly like this: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...nch-tsf-6-inch With this you use short TS pedal cables to connect everything. You need this because the Red Eye loop send & return are combined into a single connector. You need to separate the send output from the return input to the Red Eye. Hope this helps, _Roger |

Did the RedEye change? The one I had was FX out FX in.

thanks Roger, this does help. I think this is what the guy was helpfully trying to explain to me but I couldn't quite get.
thanks again Rob |

With my RedEye standard pedal cables work fine. You only need a splitter for the effects return if you also want the wet signal to go to an onstage amp or monitor as well as direct(XLR) out to the board.

Me too. I have a send jack and a separate return jack. I use regular shorty 1/4" cables to daisy chain the few pedals I use, when and if I use them.

Thanks everyone for the info. As far as I can see, for my use, I won't need the insert cable because the red eye has a separate send and return jack. But at least I've learnt what an insert cable is and why they are sometimes needed.
thanks again. |

:-D I should have looked at my Red Eye! The loop connections are separate sure enough. You won’t need an insert cable which is simpler. But if you ever see a preamp with a connector marked “Insert” you’ll know what it’s about.

cheers Roger.
I can see this is quite common with preamps too so good info to know. |
