The guitar Kurt Vile is playing is a Martin what?
Tiny Desk Concert Link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPpjFtNPnAc Anyone know what the first guitar is (he changes guitars after the 2nd song)? A Martin HOG model xx? His vocals may be controversial, but that guitar and his playing sound great. Really both guitars sound great. Is it the guitar itself or the electronics/amp/effects...? |

It appears to be one of those 000-15 custom shop models with gloss and binding

I believe it's a Martin "Philadelphia Folk Festival" guitar. He talks about it in this interview.

I'm a huge and longtime Kurt Vile fan.
Kurt used to use the Phila Folk Fest edition made by Martin or a custom spec'd out per Vintage Instruments in Philadelphia that is very similar to the Folk Fest model. He almost always plays live through a few pedals and an amp. It is an OO size that I think is slightly deeper than a standard OO18 and might be designated DB. I think these are Mahogany sides and some sort of tinted spruce top. I think the lighter topped OO is the actual Folk Fest version he's using on Tiny Desk...unless he got a custom built up...which could be because it looks like it's in really nice shape. I checked out a similarly spec'd OO at https://vintage-instruments.com/ which is an INCREDIBLE shop in downtown Philadelphia...it was something else. |
