Default Track information in Wav format?

This may seem silly, so I apologize up front. So, when I save songs down as MP3, there are options for adding track information, such as artist, title, album, music type, track number, etc. When I save to wav files format, there is no way to save that info as part of the song file. If I submitted a song or album for publication to CDBaby or similar, is there a way to include such track info?

I have uploaded entire albums to CD BABY, not individual songs, but I think it's going to be the same process. When you upload the Wave file, you also type in the track name and other information on their form. The last time I did this, which was a couple of years ago, the uploading process to CD Baby was not too difficult.

I hope this is helpful.

MP3 files are designed to hold that "metadata" info plus the compressed audio.
A wav file is just the audio, but not as compressed. Places that let you upload wav files will often allow you to add that info as tags, but it will be on the website and not on the actual file itself.

WAVE format files were not designed for metadata. The structure is based on an older IBM Corp RIFF file format.

MP3, AIFF, FLAC etc. all came a decade or so later, and were designed with metadata in mind.
