Default NGD - Second Furch Little Jane

The limited edition that I acquired earlier this year has been nothing short of astonishing. And it dawned on me that I'm a little hesitant to take it out on trips, given its rarity and quality. So after some more research and thoughts, I found this Sitka/EIR version of the Little Jane (which itself is a non-standard build as it turns out), and pulled the trigger on it.

Many of its key characteristics are identical to the limited edition, but the key differences are:
  • Top (Alpine vs. Sitka)
  • Back/Sides (Cocobolo vs. EIR)
  • Bridge Pins (Ebony vs. Plastic, which I switched out with Tusq)
  • Bindings (Padauk vs. Faux Tortoise)
  • Rosette (Abalone vs. Plastic)
  • Neck Block (See photos below)
And there are several other cosmetic differences as well.

When it comes to tone (the most important difference), the limited has a bit more sparkle and sounds "prettier," whereas this one tends to carry a more "fundamental" tone. It could be that the limited has been broken in more the past few months. (Ironically, the serial number of the limited is newer.) Or perhaps the Alpine/Cocobolo combination just tickles my ears more.

I think this new Sitka/EIR guitar needs a little time to settle in and mature to give it a fair chance. It's entirely possible that I would've been completely smitten had I acquired this first instead of the limited, but the reality is my ears have already been spoiled by the limited, so to speak. At any rate, this one has a pickup installed already, and will be ready to go on trips and gigs.

More updates will surface in the coming weeks.

Assuming the new one is the Coco. At any rate, looks great! I love my LJ...

The opposite is true. I acquired the Alpine/Cocobolo limited several months ago, and the Sitka/EIR came today. They both look great regardless.

They look fantastic. Congrats!

Have you considered posting a sound comparison of the two? Because that would be pretty swell.

The opening reminds me of something I saw in the operation room.

Ha ha, for one thing I lack equipment at home for proper recording (if you don't count a smartphone mic). Also, my playing skills are nothing compared to yours, so I'd be a bit embarrassed to post something.

Well if you don’t have any way to record, I guess that’s that. I was just thinking how cool it is that you have two guitars so similar yet clearly different and wondering whether or not that difference would be audible.

In any case, I can tell you’ve been bitten by the Furch bug. There are probably worse afflictions to have.
