Default If you could only pick one tonewood

I know these are dumb but I enjoy statistics and so even though this topic is forever surfacing I thought I'd make a current poll about it.
Now, I know many of us don't have a favourite tone wood (I'm talking back and sides) necessarily and that it depends on the guitar, which is my case, but imagine if you could only have one acoustic guitar, which one would it be and what is the tone wood on that guitar? Or do you, for the majority of your guitars, prefer one type of tone wood?

I know there are sub-species of these woods, but I didn't want to get too specific!

I probably missed some more obscure woods, forgive me, I wish there was the 'add option' to the polls.

EDIT*
**** I already forgot cherry! I've owned a few cherry b/s sides acoustics and am a big Godin fan, shame on me! If a mod can add an option, please go ahead.

The Poll isn't showing, but I choose Tasmanian Blackwood. Get it in there!

Edit: now the Poll's showing.

As much as I love Rosewood, if it had to be one, mahogany for the versatility

Getting to be very popular. See Taylor guitars. Mine's a 324.

From the Taylor website: Blackwood’s tone profile resembles that of koa or mahogany in its midrange focus — a little dry and clear yet also warm — with an added splash of top-end shimmer and richness found in rosewood. Its musicality suits a variety of body sizes and musical styles.

I also already forgot cherry, which is embarrassing as I've owned three guitars with cherry b/s and plan to be buying another one in the next year or so, which will be my fourth over the years. Too bad I can't edit the poll.

First of all, d.loseth, as American citizens we NEVER play "favourites."

We play favorites, instead. Quicker that way....

Anyway, there are obviously lots of great tonewoods clamoring for attention in that list, and many equally great ones that didn't make it. But rather than agonizing over them like my Great-Aunt Ruthie agonizing over whether to take the last slice of cake, I went ahead and voted for koa.

But American black walnut and English/European walnut come in a close second and third for me.

Like many experienced and acquisitive acoustic guitar owners, I own and have owned guitars made out of at least half the species listed, and few that aren't (like cherry, Australian blackwood and khaya.) But the beauty of an arbitrary poll like this is that it does make you focus and think about which one you cherish the most.

So for me it's koa, closely followed by black walnut right on its heels.

Thanks!

At the expense of being boring, I'd probably go with good old fashioned rosewood, but honestly it's a dead-heat tie with mahogany and German maple. There are so many fantastic tonewoods out there.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Antonio de Torres' papier-mâché guitar yet...

Okay, so my favorite tonewood is papier-mâché, but it has to be 19th Century SPANISH papier-mâché to sound any good!

Here's a couple of photos that William Cumpiano includes on his website about the guitar. It's the same guitar, but he chooses to call it "cardboard" rather than the usual way it gets described as "papier-mâché."

Not only the best-sounding tonewood, but the prettiest, too!*
