Default Martin Johnny Cash HPL all laminate

Kind of bewildered......its a cool looking guitar...

https://www.americanmusical.com/mart...XJOHNNYCASH#s3

but 16....5 star reviews on an all laminate guitar, YES, the top is laminate HPL too!!! at $600 bucks? How can an all formica guitar sound so great? I think it should have at least a solid top....for $600 bucks.

this guys states a $600 guitar that sounds like $6000 guitar?

for another $200 you could find a used all solid wood USA made Gibson G 45 studio, spray paint it black, and called it a Johnny Cash special

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iyil8oALQYQ

Anyone want to chime in, especially owners of this Johnny Cash tribute

I have played all HPL before and it has sounded really good. But I have been reading about the non-reparability of HPL if you bump it the wrong way.

Not a Martin HPL but I have a Voyage Air (bottom of the line VAOM-02) all laminate and it actually sounds pretty good especially for what it is? Never played that Cash model so I can't speak to that particular guitar.

Laminate guitars have come a long way, many sound pretty darn good. I have a Martin X series guitar with a solid top and HPL back and sides and it sounds really nice, but have played others that are all HPL that sound equally good. The appeal of an all HPL guitar is that it can be taken into extreme environments, left lying around the house or in the car, etc and not be worried about. Humidity and temperature aren't going to destroy it. The guitar you linked also has a black finish and a fretboard inlay that I'm sure they upcharge for, plus a solid pickup system. Then add in the standard "it's a Martin" fee and $600 sounds about right.

$600 and it does not even have a solid top? Truly ridiculous.

I gave my daughter an all HPL Martin years ago and it sounds good for an all Formica guitar, BUT it does not sound anything like a 6K guitar. At least the Andy Griffith signature was a real D-18. This is an insult to Johnny!

I'm not a fan of that hpl stuff, if i were buying an all laminate, I'd buy an old epiphone FT140 or 145 or an old Yamaha.

Just a (smart?) business move on Martin's part...make a budget guitar for all the guitar-playing Cash fans that don't have a million bucks to spend on the real thing....pretty sure they'll make money on these...Ed Sheeran's probably the most famous example of the same thing up 'til now...just my 2 cents...

For somebody gigging in bars, this looks like a useful instrument. You can spill a beer on it, plug it straight into the board or into an amp, and not have to worry about much of anything except keeping the strings fresh enough to get and stay in tune.

Would I spend $600 on it? No, but I don't need to.

For anyone playing in a noisy bar, though, it might be a godsend.

As for the 5 star reviews, I honestly don't see much point in even glancing at those, much less reading them. It sounds as though the people who wrote those reviews are happy with their purchases, but I don't care, and I wouldn't care even if I was contemplating the purchase of one of these guitars. Online reviews are mere persiflage so far as I'm concerned.

Id pass - their are better guitars out their than this low end signature model HPL - some people would think this cool - but it is a low end model -
I can name about twenty guitars that are better than this one for about the same money ( even better if you go the used market )

I always get a chuckle out of the die-hard Martin fans.
If it says Martin on it then it must be good.
Some will say it sounds just like a Martin.
I suppose it should.
It is a Martin.

I don't think it's fair to say it's an insult to Johnny Cash. The Johnny Cash D35 still exists, but for those not willing or able to cough up several grand this provides a more reasonable option for fans.

It's a $600 HPL electric guitar that sounds like a $6000 guitar ?

I like YouTube reviews and some are better than others. I'll admit that the Eq of the mic they are using sounds quite good, but HPL, budget Electro?

Remember this is NOT a review its and advert - 2buy your **** here:

Also he started with "Watsup" so that invalidates anything he says afterwards anyway.
