Default How much mm tall is your saddle?

I just bought a new one at 8mm tall. Can't wait for it to come.

That's about right. They usually come in that size. Up to the individual to customize it by sanding. I have my bass side at 7.8 mm and the treble side at 6.8mm. That works for me.

The height of the saddle by itself is irrelevant. And saddle height is adjusted to suit the needs of that particular instrument. No such thing as plug-and-play.

I sanded down my saddle so it sits a lot lower than before. I've only been playing guitar for shy of 2 months now and this is the first thing I've done that truly requires work. I sanded about 4mm off of it.

So how did that work out for you? Easier to play? Any gain or loss of tone or volume?

Well. I can tell that you the string by the fretboard at higher frets is definitely lowered. Other than that, I'm not professional enough to hear a difference. It definitely doesn't buzz anymore than it was when the saddle was higher.

So I sanded it down further to where the high E is almost but not touching the bridge.... Wow am I crazy or my guitar has no string buzz and sounds great now.

The height of the saddle in itself is irrelevant whether or not you are dealing with a drop in or a "through" bridge slot.
In either case it depends upon the amount of bridge below the slot.

The amount of saddle above the bridge is ideally about 1/8" but it depends entirely on the action required at the 12th fret.

If the saddle has to be filed very low it probably indicates an issue with the neck angle, as it slowly moves to the point where a neck resent is required.

There is no "standard" action for acoustic guitar as it depends on the individual, the strings and the style, however, my main maker sets up to 3/32" (.094") bass and 2/32" (sic) 1/16" (.062") treble at 12th fret.

I prefer .110" bass and .080" treble.

Then there's a matter of relief! (neck relief that is!)
