I've been wearing this one out the last couple of days. I think one of the great things about these threads is discovering or RE-discovering songs you never knew or had long forgotten about. This is such a lovely song and a really nice one to play...

Really nice job! I've never developed a solid strumming capability like you have. Need to work on it!

I was playing around with this one and decided to record it. This is a relatively obscure song off his Hard Promises album. As always don't listen too closely to the vocals. Man, this guy has such a DEEEEEP catalog. I'm sure his family wouldn't get as much for the rights to his music as Bruce just got for his, but I'd have to figure it'd be worth a pretty penny...

I've brought a few of these song threads temporarily back to life. I'm gonna try it again. This is the last song on Wildflowers, which is such a songwriting tour de force I can barely believe it sometimes. TP did this one with a piano and an orchestra - I don't play piano and don't have access to an orchestra, so guitars it is...

Ray. I love that song. Great job.

I subscribe to Sirius XM in my car for one reason… Tom Petty radio.

I'm surprised I never added this old video to the thread. I did have to adjust the song to fit the Beat Buddy track someone made incorrectly.

Gone but not forgotten - TP for sure, but also this thread.

I've been playing around with doing really bare bones video recordings, just playing acoustic and singing - really enjoying it and it's probably helping me become a slightly better singer. I just started playing this song a couple months ago and recorded it both ways, but I like the multi-track version better, particularly for the doubled vocals on the "ooooh ooooh, oooooh" parts, but also I like having an electric lead on it as well. I just put it on Soundcloud a few days ago and it seems to have gone slightly viral in Asia - admittedly, anything over a half dozen or so plays is viral to me, since I make no effort to get my stuff played.

Nice job Ray! I’m late to the thread and to TP in general, but I’m making up for lost time, really digging his stuff lately. I know you are a huge fan, keep ‘em coming

Thanks Bob. I fist saw him in ‘79 and was a fan before that. His catalog is soooo deep, so many great songs, and the hits are just about the least of em, although they’re pretty great too. It’s a DEEEEEP well - enjoy it!

Really great version Ray. Saw him with the Heartbreakers in 1988. What a catalog.
