Default NGD Martin 000c Nylon

I bought a Martin 000c yesterday. Was just an odd bird for me. Longer different body shape, shorter scale and slot head and such. Sitting among the higher end steel strings at my local shop. Went back a couple of times to play it and saw the Doug Young acousticguitar Youtube video. I like the overall feel of the guitar as a steel string player and that has been touched on by a few online reviews I've read or watched. Had a nice deep tone and for me - probably the friendliest neck shape of many of the classicals I've tried which has been what I've waited for. I plugged it into a solo amp and it was a decent sound although I don't think I'd ever have much of a need for it. Gloss top, tortoise binding, nice rosette and simple appointments. I had an awesome Cordoba C7 a couple of years ago but it went back when a car died and was not replaced. I've also been close to a GK. So I'm pleasantly surprised I'm playing a Martin nylon, but it is one of the stock that floats my boat in the here and now. Quick smartphone shot... but you get the idea. Yeah that's a pick in the photo. Does GREAT with one and strumming too!!

Default Congratulations

I hope you enjoy your 000C! They are very nice instruments in that particular price range.

Well the Cordoba was pretty deep sounding and the neck was different... Wider I guess and seemed to be and is, that more traditional classical guitar. I really liked mine. The Martin has deep resonace too but has a sustain I'd say is worth noting. Really, really nice in fact. a strength. That longer note combined with a deep tone and a neck that feels more crossover or steel string -like-- to me, drew me to it. I think every Cordoba I've played is dynamite though... cheap to expensive. That C7 is killer and has an extra gear with the cedar and rosewood. I do favor the action and feel of this Martin neck and setup. I don't have to work at it to play it so much like most of the classicals I pick up. That's probably because I diddle some in fingerstyle and am not a real classical player or trained so to speak, but I enjoy it and have fun. Can't wait to monkey around with Christmas tunes this season.

Cool NGD - Martin 000C Nylon

CONGRATS on a great choice!!! I own one, as well, and consider it to be my 'go to' guitar! I just love deep warm bass resonance, with plenty of volume, and plugged in, it will blow you into next week!

It's been a few weeks and I haven't had my steel strings out of the cases. Really is a nice little guitar with depth and resonance. Still diggin' mine.

I had a Taylor 514ce-N that just didn't fit me. When my local shop got a Custom Shop 000c-N I tried it out and was sorry they didn't have it when I bought the 514 as I actually liked the Martin better, particularly the CS version (gloss finish through out).

After a month of dithering I swapped the 514ce-N for a 512ce-N which fits me perfectly (at least for my playing style).

Most of these cross-over guitars have a 1-7/8" nut width which differs by as much a 1/4" from most classical guitars. The Alhambra I used to have had a 2-1/8" nut width. If your fingers aren't long or you're just used to a narrower steel string neck the 1-7/8" is a nice width.

Enjoy your venture into nylon. (smile)

Dave

I was so happy you found the right guitar,, until i saw it in you pictures.
horror of horrors, blastphamy of blastphamys,

A FLATPICK STUCK IN BETWEEN THE STRINGS ON THE NECK!

Dont you know the classical area is a flatpick free zone?

(seriously though, congrats on your new guitar)
