Need some opinions
I'm pretty close to wrapping up this one and would like some input from AGFers' re: to pickguard or not to pickguard. I'm playing off the top inlays with a segmented pickguard design and am undecided as whether or to install the pickguard or leave it off entirely.
Here are a couple of pics with and without. Your thoughts? https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...1&d=1567451622 https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...1&d=1567451622 |

Hi Jimmy:
I would choose no pickguard. Seems to fit the very modern design of this build. I have long been a fan of your work. I love the thin neck heel and cutaway here. Looks like a modern fingerstylist dream machine! -Charles

I vote no PG
It looks better to me sans PG. too much going on with the "pick guards" and the modern rosette at the same time, to my eyes.
Your work is very appealing and I liked playing your axe at B.I.G! Carry on and have fun Paul

Good idea
Good idea Matt! Clear would not conflict with the rosette, and still protect the top.
Cheers Paul

I like the way the pickguard(s) look, but I worry about the functionality. An enthusiastic strummer like myself would wear grooves between those little fingers of celluloid. Might add an interesting percussive effect though.

I vote no pick guard although clear would be ok. I think the segmented pick guard looks kind of cool but it would also seem to not provide any real protection.

Pickguard
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I think the clear pickguard is a great suggestion and that's what we'll do. I strung her up last week and am really happy with everything about this guitar. I didn't quite know what to expect as I deviated from my usual practices on just about everything.
Tonally, this is a more contemporary sounding guitar than my norm and the playability is excellent. The neck profile really lends itself to the cutaway and interestingly, even though it's a multi-scale, I don't notice that feature while playing it. Thanks again for your input. |
