How are the new Taylor GT models selling?
There is probably no accurate way to measure this...but I would be really very interested to know how well the new Taylor GT811e and K21e are selling, at their $2999 and $4699 price points.
Are they beautiful? Yes. Do I want one? Absolutely...but I just can't see why Taylor has invested so heavily in both of these very pricey models especially the way economic times are currently. They are both such "niche" instruments. Any thoughts? Can any dealers post here to give us some idea as to how these models are doing in their shops? |

You might not realize that it is precisely this current economy and conditions that have sent sales on a spike, including the high end.

I’m a Taylor fan. I’ve owned probably 15 Taylor’s over the years. My 512e is exceptional. But I have to say - the pricing for the two models you reference seem out of line. However, I have not played either.

Id also be curious how the base GT-urban ash model is selling. And if theyre getting returned much. I am gradually warming to mine, and will keep her, but there were several bouts of mild buyers remorse when looking at the tag...

Ask the new employee owners. See if they share their sales numbers.

I agree with the OP that these are beautiful guitars. I played the 811 and it looks even prettier in person with the maple binding. If it were me, I would try to price these at the lower end of the spectrum (perhaps put in the 400 series where there are some rosewoods), but Taylor is clearly betting people are willing to pay a premium by placing these in the 800 series with all of those upgraded appointments. And the new koa could have been a mahogany top GT priced comparable to the urban ash GT. But what do I know? This forum has discussed Taylors marketing ad nauseam and I have no doubt they did their research before releasing these.

My last experience with Taylor, with my AD 12e, and the consequent experience with their customer service, has left me feeling like Taylor is not the company it once was. IMHO, their standards are slipping. This may be, in all fairness, due to covid. Regardless, I wouln't buy another new Taylor without close inspection first. I'm also not a fan of V bracing, or whatever it is they call it these days, particularly on smaller body guitars.
I do like smaller body guitars. If I ever run across one that sounds and plays like the X braced 812 I had, and foolishly sold, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. For reference: https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=600341 |

i like the idea of the GT butttt,,,,
I have played a couple of them, and the comparable body size Breedlove in the organic series that I played after the GT was far and away a better sounding guitar. Yes I was at a GC
I think they would have been better off to introduce the GT with one of the other sustainable woods, I don't think the urban ash sounds that good. Now as far as the 811 GT goes, I have not played one, but I do have a CEO7 that I bought new for considerably less that the 811 GT is selling for. I'm going out on a limb here but I will bet that the CEO7 kicks the 811GTs butt in all categories. As always,,,YMMV. |

All employee owners are not invested (%) the same. We have a few businesses around locally that have done this, and the majority owners are generally the original owners who own more than 50% (thus allowing them the final say in what goes on).
