Before and after pics of my little project. I was able to remove 2mm of paint & wood with only a sharp chisel and the patience of a retiree with nothing else to do

I scored the paint in the recess before I began work with the chisel. The result is the pickup now sits @ 2mm lower in the body and I have what I think is proper clearance between the strings and the pickup itself.

Yes. It was awesome! Got wood chips & sawdust all over my desk. I stuffed a sock into the hole to keep debris out of the body but still needed to pull out the mini vacuum to clean up the few pieces that somehow found their way into the guitar
