Smile 96 Taylor 514c no E. VGC+. OFF MARKET. CHEERS!

Hey Gang

KEEPING this super cool old Taylor. With ex + OHSC, "Pink Poodle Case" in excellent condition!
This one is a 1996 514c. No Electronics ever, so no barn door nonsense, and NO strap pin at neck heel, either

Keeping this for now. Too fine to let go...

These were always Cedar/Mahogany and back then always had cool Tortoise plastic binding on the body.

Light as a feather and sounds and plays GREAT.

This one from 1996. Second year for this model I believe.

As usual , unless custom ordered, 1.75" Nut
As always for Taylor (I think) 2 3/16" string spacing at Saddle.

The 90s "electric neck" that put Taylor on the map, along with the superior fit, finish, playability and INTONATION. not to mention the TONE.

These early Grand Auditoriums were the inspiration for many small shop builder's Small Jumbo instruments. Heck Taylor was a small builder back then!

16" Lower Bout

For those who have not experienced a 90s Taylor, expect a much different Instrument than the post 2000 NT neck models.
Slimmer neck, less mass at the neck joint, lighter build all around, and very nice thin finish in 96. Also warmer and FATTER tone.

I have had this sitting in my humidity monitored music room for a couple years now and it is not getting played due to my BOSS John Kinnaird Customs.

Time to move it along to a new owner who will give it lots of exercise!

This is in fantastic structural condition with no cracks and a great neck angle.
It has plenty of the original Saddle if one wanted to go even lower but I play with a low action and fairly light touch and this is great for me.

I must let you all know it does have a few SLIGHT dings, a couple of which caused bits of finish lift on the back at the Binding, and one small 1/4" wide bonk through the finish but not into the wood.
Some light fret wear, mostly on the second string by the Nut. But no fret dress needed yet imo.
Also a slight bit of bridge lift. But hey it is 23 years old, and has been lovingly played. That is a good thing!

The top is exceptionally clean and almost unblemished.

I will get pics up soon and will show these small issues as well as I can!

This has been inspected by my Tech and Pal Pat Quinn who is a Senior Repair Tech at Taylor Repair in El Cajon. Aside from the above issues he gave it a clean bill of health.

If anyone wants, I could take it to Pat and have everything put as close to new as possible. Hard to beat Taylor Repair in El Cajon!

As always, I am happy to answer any questions and love to talk guitars!
619-445-1189. I am in the Mts. East of San Diego.
9-9 PDT, please

Happy playing, and tune up often! Hahaha

Paul

I have this exact same guitar, or this baby would already be on its way to NC.

NOBODY takes better care of guitars than Paul.

This guitar will be a lifetime keeper, as is mine.

Do yourself a favor and buy this baby while you can.

It is worth many times the asking price.

Yet another goodie from Paul’s stable of carefully selected and curated guitars. I have played this guitar and it is as he says; “Super Cool”. You know when you get an instrument from Paul that it is exactly as advertised. This little sweety needs to find a home.

Thanks Steve/shorthand. You have played a LOT of my guitars. Heck, you OWN quite a few that used to be mine!

Gorgeous! These are stellar models. I’ve owned quite a few 90’s era Taylor’s. They’re incredible guitars. Another cool “vintage aspect”...the PINK POODLE cases. Always dug those.

This should sell itself! All the best.

Thanks PTony. These are so light and responsive! A couple more pics trying to show the bridge. LOTS of saddle showing, and a perfect neck angle. Straight edge on the frets is right at the top of the bridge, where it belongs. I just double checked. Off to play it a bit...

I wish I could snag this one. I have two of these, a '96 & a '97. They are my favorite guitars I've ever owned. This is one of the nicest original '96 514C's I've seen in awhile. I like the smiley bridge in these. It's always good when your guitar is smiling! Good luck!

Smile Yep..

Thanks stevemc!

I played this a bunch yesterday and it is a FINE AXE FOR SURE.
IMO these early 514s are the cream of Taylor's regular production models ever.

if this does not move real quick I am going to take it to Pat Quinn and have it dialed to my specs and really buffed out.
I can so Why Not?

It is way worth keeping, even in my overloaded quiver.

If you are interested let's talk real soon.

Happy Saturday

Paul

Don't tempt me Paul. My wife would hunt you down and I don't want to be responsible for that! LOL!
Seriously if I didn't already have one I would be all over this one. These are good for all around but probably one of the best fingerstyle guitars Taylor has ever made to my ear and hands.
I will give you a Sunday morning bump. Best of luck.
