Default Abide with Me

Just working on levels and mic positions on this one, but thought I'd share nonetheless.

It's an approximation of John Renbourn's arrangement of a great old hymn. Now to perfect Great Dreams of Heaven to tack on the end.

Good job. Here and there the hymn seems to want to breaks out into the blues.

Thanks for listening Rick. You're right - it's the Renbourn arrangement that just seems to want to open right up into a blues. I'll get it all the way there before I'm done.

That was very nice! Nice smooth and relaxed playing, I thought - and the recording is very good.

Everytime I hear someone doing such a lovely version of one of his arrangements (like yours), makes me want to go and try out some of his tunes again. But it's always over my head - so it's nice to listen to it being done so well!

Great job Stringfellow!!

I have listened to it nearly 10 times in a row.

What tuning? Capo?

Would a tab be availiable?.....I'm always looking for great fingerstyle hymns to use in my music worship services.

Keep em' coming

God Bless

Barry

Thanks for listening guys. Shawlie, I think Renbourn does some of the most interesting arrangements and they are surprisingly simple. I hope you find some to try out. He just knows the instrument so well and his lightness of touch and elegant fingering always make his pieces fun to play.

Barry, the TAB is available from Stefan Grossman - I got it from one of the Renbourn videos. But I recently saw some Renbourn tabs here: http://www.angelfire.com/music2/blackmack/european.html. You have to work a bit to get to the files and they're in Table Edit format, but it's worth it. The piece is in dropped D no capo.

Marty I should probably make you guess as to the instrument, but that would be mean. It's John Walker's L-00 sized Petty Creek Elite, short scale - maple back and sides and in my case Engelmann spruce top. Here's the link to the description: http://www.johnwalkerguitars.com/JWG...reekElite.html - it's a pocket battleship and just great to play.

Thanks to you all for your comments and for listening.
