It’s been a pretty productive couple of weeks....

Channels being prepared for bindings and purflings.

John usually recommends a small and thin arm bevel, so that it cuts less into the top and also maintains the shape. Most of his arm bevels look almost invisible from the front view. For this one we decided to go a tad wider than normal because we wanted to showcase a bit more of the Fiddleback that was gonna be used. Vanity.

As you may see the end graft is also in Fiddleback. John is certainly welcome to ideas in all shapes, forms and fashion and while we were bouncing them off each other he agreed to attempt something that he hadn’t tried before. That was, to use different woods for the bevel & end graft against the bindings. We also decided on the ABW/Fiddleback/ABW purfling arrangement at this point.

Did I also mention that John is a perfectionist? He decided that the first bevel did not look good enough, and on his significant expense ordered more Fiddleback, and replaced it with this.

For now the body is officially off to the finisher!

Tony is going to burst parts of the bevel and end graft, especially at the ends and edges to create a fade in/out kinda look with the African Blackwood bindings. The original idea was to use hot sand treatment on the bevel/end graft, but John advised that this might affect the structural integrity of the wood when used for the application. Thus we decided to rely on the mad skills of Tony to pull this off.

I will face an anxious wait now but I know that the end product can only look better from hereon. And it’s already looking spectacular!

John has other builds to focus on now but he will also move on to some neck work for the next month or two.

Smile Woohoo!

Wolf whistle here!!!

I thought the first bevel looked tasty, but the second does look nicer IMO.

You will be glad you got the bigger bevel, and not just for the looks...

Excellent all around, boy the woods on this guitar are a masterpiece in themselves and throw in John's workmanship and you have a perfect combination.

Thanks @Paul! Since this one is no longer around to distract John, he can focus on your baby!

Thanks for hopping on this thread Tom, and your kind words. When I saw your build thread with JK, I was inspired and knew one day I would get one with a rosette just like that. So when my turn came around I took a screenshot and told John please use this as a basis for mine. For that I'm grateful to you!

john just got the OVERLORD for custom neck carve basis. He may be doing ours together? That would be cool...

That exploded rosette WAS Tom Bsox' idea, wasn't it? How quickly I forget...

Tom, I am glad we got the one BIG, at least. Seems like a different world...

C'est la vie say the old folks, you never know when the volcano will blow.

Everybody play while you can!

Happy Armageddon

I am glad you liked the rosette on my J Kinnaird. That shadow box/mosaic is a really nice look for sure. I definitely did not design that, but I did ask John for it on my guitar also so I got that going for me.

What an INCREDIBLY beautiful guitar! I love the use of scorched fiddleback on this, especially the back strip details. John is simply a Master craftsman in both design and execution. Han, I have a feeling this experience will ruin you for all others!

Huge Congrats

Default Blending the mahogany

These are some shots from the white room to show how the fading concept is working out. I’m giving the whole concept two thumbs up

I can’t stop staring at the pictures and my anticipation rises!
