My Bart Reiter open-back banjo didn't have an armrest when I bought it. I bought an after-market one and it took all of 2 minutes to install.
It does make it a lot more comfy not having the brackets digging into your' arm.

That's the great thing about banjos, it's so easy to do adjustments on them yourself (you take the whole thing apart in less than half an hour). They seem a lot easier to set-up for a normal lay person than a guitar, anyway, I think.

I dabble with Irish tenor banjo.

I would add that if you have ever played a banjo in a closet, you won't do it a second time.

I am out of the closet and love it. Banjos are great and fun to play. I have an eleven inch Recording King with a Whyte Ladie tone ring, a Mike Ramsey 12" with a brass tone ring, and a 13" Noel Booth Antebellum banjo with synthetic gut. Anyone that puts down playing a banjo is an idiot and should not be trusted.

The banjo's a great instrument, although it's dangerous if someone without a good sense of timing gets their hands on one! I've played a five-string banjo my dad has a little: it's a cheap one by Vintage, and it sounds truly horrible, so I don't play it for long...

But I like hearing Earl Scruggs play in Doc Watson's garden.

I've played banjo for a little over 10 years now. It has never been my main instrument so I never spent a bunch of time practicing on it. But here lately, I've become really interested in learning more, I've started taking lessons, and I spend a fair amount of my time practicing. I play Scruggs style though...no clawhammer or anything.

I play an old Leo Fender Deluxe banjo like this except mine doesn't have any design on the inside of it. I'll probably put a white frosted head on it in the next week or two.

Check out Matt Menefee with Cadillac Sky. Probably my favorite banjo player.

I have a banjo, but I'd hardly call myself a player....Best I can do is a simple cover of "Dead Skunk".

I do some drop thumb clawhammer, have been for about 5 years now. It's taken up more of my practice time than guitar or mandolin over the last couple of years. And, since I play, I can now tell banjo jokes without ticking off all the banjo players.

Do any of you guy's play guitar in open G tuning using banjo TABs? How does it sound?

I have never played banjo, but, I really love the sound. Especially when the group is playing an up-tempo country number and the banjo cuts in playing at break neck speed.

Well lets see...my handle is "banjar"....

Yes I have 4 banjos and play clawhammer banjo, so I'm a downpicker. I can up pick if my life depends on it but I cant play bluegrass...I love the old bluegrass but not much of the new.

Banjo gets about 1/8 the practice time of guitar, sadly..
