This is your first custom build. Based on the results of the John Walker, do you think you'll do another custom again, either from Walker or someone else?
This is actually my second John Walker. I picked up a Lochsa from a guitar shop here in Seattle but it wasn’t a custom order. I loved that one so much I went for the OM. I’ve also played several other of John’s guitars so I felt confident I was going to be happy with the build. If I ever get the itch for another, I wouldn’t hestiste to go to John again. I think the only way I would get a custom build from someone else is if I had the chance to play several examples and fell in love. For now, I am just very happy with what I have and it’s hard for me to imagine searching out a different luthier.

Looks like it turned out really well. Was this his first OM?

Thanks. Yes, this was his first OM. Most of his other models are appropriately Gibson-inspired. But he let me convince him to make an OM and he built this one like he has been making them for decades. He also built another Missouri River for the La Conner Guitar Festival.

Funny, I am not a Gibson guy, but love John's guitars. I have 3 but don't even know which Gibson models that they are his interpretations of.

That's awesome! What models do you own?

I have NEVER played one of John's guitars that wasn't excellent to amazing.
I own a 2007 Wise River copied off a '39 J-35. It is loud, has an incredible low end, and nice thick trebles. It is insanely dry and nails a vintage sound.

I played one of John's Brazilian D-28 copies when I was at his shop 3 years ago, if I had the dough I would've bought it on the spot. Also played an amazing L-00 copy with really cool purfling John had made and a crazy grayish burst.

Very cool that he built "Allentown" an OM. There's a reason you never see John's guitars come up for sale often!

First was a Ruby Elite that I bought at the Podium in Minneapolis. I think John was just starting out and came into town hoping that they would be a dealer. It is the Ruby Elite on his website #11.

I called John a year or two later and asked him if he had any guitars for sale - a Wise River #25, it is the one in the canoe in the Beat That section of his website.

Last is a Lochsa that I did a custom order for. It is Adirondack/cocobolo sunburst.

All are great guitars.

Congrats man! Great looking guitar. I've actually never heard of John Walker guitars before (although I am acquainted with his brother Johnnie Walker haha).

John told me about your guitar months ago as we were talking about my Lochsa. Big Moe should be wonderful as are all his creations.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting John at the La Conner Guitar Festival. Great guy and really beautiful guitars.

Congratulations on your second Walker.

That guitar is gorgeous. It really doesn't get any better than that. That BRW is the stuff of legend.

Congratulations to the OP! Looks like a gem. From the standpoint of someone who already has too many guitars, I wish I could unsee this thread . . .

Just a beautiful guitar ! Simple elegance with some pretty amazing high end brazilian wood from the master craftsman. Love the trout on the headstock and clean fretboard too.
Enjoy and congratulations on the build Allentown
