Best gig-bag type case that is small but sturdy
Following the failure that was the "alternatives to Collings Traditional cases" thread, can someone recommend a decently padded but not huge and ugly gig-bag style case? I am looking for one that would offer decent protection, is light and easily storable in terms of compactness.
It seems most gig-bag style cases either don't offer enough protection, or are large and ugly. Does anyone know of any good alternatives to Collings Traditional cases? I am not looking for flight protection (although that would be nice), but rather just enough for bump protection, say if it banged into the corner of a stone table. |

I love SKB hard gig bags.
They don't offer the crush protection (stepping on them) as a hard case but they cradle and protect for drops and tumbles (down the stairs).

Have a "Mono" brand gig bag-very supportive light weight, versatile and a nice two tone black/grey with white accents...

I'm pretty impressed with my Access Bag. Sturdy and not to heavy,
also easy to carry. Very high quality materials. |

I have a Gator transit gig bag. Sturdy, well padded but not heavy. I have a light gray one.

I am not a fan of gig bags. But they are better than nothing. I also have a Gator bag. It is padded and will protect against a bump into the table.
I have since replaced the 2 gig bags I have with hard cases. I got a heck of a deal on 2 new Diamond cases that fit my needs perfectly. I do have a use for the 2 gig bags.

Mono make the sturdiest gig bags I've ever seen. They aren't cheap but if you want to go the gig bag route, they're definitely the best. Gator bags are not as sturdy but are fine for light use and are definitely cheaper than Mono.

I have a Reunion Blues Continental Midnight, which I really like. I find it light but somewhat bulky, possibly huge and ugly.

I use gig bags to carry guitars to friends houses to jam, to go to lessons and to carry instruments around the house. I have both the Reunion Blues Continental and the Mono 80. A little more expensive than some but great bags. I think the RB offers the best protection, but it is a little more bulky. The Mono offers what most think is equally good protection and it is a little lighter and a little less bulky. Both are the highest quality. Either will do the trick. If memory serves, picked up the RB here on the forum. The other I broke down and ordered new as it is a small bag for my PJ. The little Momo also holds my little Recording King and I plan to take the RK in it the. Next time I am flying (wedding in Austin in September?).

Very reasonably priced structured gig bags. Not sure if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but I quite like them.

I like Access bags a lot. Do be aware that they are available in a series of ascending protective levels. They begin with "Upstart" and progress through Stage One, Stage Three, and Stage Five bags, as well as a "Professional" level.
https://www.accessbagsandcases.com/p...y/access-bags/ Each user must chose between the level of protection, cost, and bulkiness. I personally prefer the Access Stage Three bags. |

Thanks for the recommendations guys, unfortunately none of the cases appear to pass the "not big and bulky" test for me... I guess I should've purchased a Collings Traditional case when I had the chance.

I have a couple of these and really like them - they are not big and bulky:
