NGD! I think I found “the one”.
I bought a sweet Taylor 114e, used but mint.
I just replaced the black plastic truss rod cover with a flamed maple one, and replaced the black plastic bridge pins with ebony with abalone inserts, and restrung it as well. This guitar blows me away. Fit, finish, playability, tone, comfort. Enough guitars have been in and out of my possession for me to know what is just right, for me. This one is it. I’ve already started selling-off some of the others. The Taylor 110 is gone. Next is the GS Mini and the Yamaha FG730. I’ll keep the Yamaha FG800 as a bang-around guitar, and the Ovation I recently got as an extra, but the 114e is my new go-to guitar. I just love it.

Enjoy the snot out if it, and revel in how much enjoyment you get from playing it.
It's a wonderful feeling, to find 'the one' for you. May that feeling last for years to come! Congratulations!

Glad you found your fit.
I keep a 114ce that lives in Anchorage with friends, so I never have to subject a guitar to the perils of airline travel. I mostly travel to / from ANC if going anywhere these days. While I have "nicer" Taylor guitars ranging up to the 600 and koa series, the little 114 does a fine job. I've used at week long guitar camp there on several occasions and not missed the others - much. |
