Here are a couple more "teaser" photos of the Blackwood Rose Consort (000-size) guitar I'm building on commission for my good friend, Ken.
I will add some descriptive text later; this afternoon, my student- luthier-friend Tim is coming over to work on his first guitar build- which may be the subject of another thread here, later. The Blackwood Rose guitar is a very special project with a great story. More soon!

Pretty, Pretty. Pretty..........something about the rose reminds me of a victorian rose you would see in stained glass.

Awesome inlay, beautiful woods. That spruce looks almost like crushed velvet rather than normal bearclaw. I hope this one makes it to Memphis - I would love to see it!

I had every confidence when I brought this project to Steve that I had chosen the right luthier for the job. I was right! This project exceeds my every expectation.

Hi, Bob! Ken has graciously offered to make this guitar available for display at Memphis, and I feel greatly inclined to take him up on his kind offer. This instrument is going to be a new benchmark in a lot of respects.
More details coming later today, I hope. Though I am not a huge football fan, today my old hometown team, the Seahawks, are going for their second Super Bowl title. I'm just a tad preoccupied until that is decided! I'll be back soon to tell you more about this project. Thanks, everyone, for looking, and for your kind comments! GO SEAHAWKS! Featuring arm, rib, and Florentine cutaway bevels; the Tri-Port side sound ports; double-side construction...

Wow...
This is looking to be a brilliantly beautiful work of art, Steve. Knowing the story and effort behind the creation of the rose, I can say that you'll go to the ends of the earth (or at least the country) to try and fulfill the wishes and dreams of your clients. I'll be coming up to Birmingham early in March, and would love to come visit you again.....especially if I can see this one in person. What an inspiration you are to those of us dreaming of building guitars; and probably many who already are.
Regarding Seattle.....I'm not passionate about pro football like I am about college football (and my Crimson Tide).....but I'll be pulling for Seattle since my sister lives out their. I also pull for the Wa. Huskies because my brother-in-law is employed by UW. Be blessed, Joel |
