what diameter are the balls on the end of strings?
I'm working on designing a pinless bridge, but I don't have any steel stringed guitars at the house ( I have a nylon string and an acoustic bass). Also what are they actually called? Wikipedia says ball, but I think there is a better name. I sometimes buy ball end nylon strings, and they have an actual black plastic ball on the end. I mean the bass barrel shaped thingy. TIA

OD = 0.155"
Wall Thickness = 0.039" Cylinder Length = 0.117" ID is therefore OD - 2 x Wall Thickness. FYI: The test piece was from a Taylor Elixir string. All external edges are chamfered with about a 0.003" radius. Ray PS: Accuracy is +/- 0.0005" |

Good question ... I have always heard them referred to as "ball ends", but it would be interesting to know what they are actually called in string manufacturing plants.
