Default "Sundown" by Gordon Lightfoot (cover)

This is my cover of Gordon Lightfoot's song "Sundown" from 1974. This is a song about infidelity. Sundown is the interloper going after the GL's woman in the song. It was Lightfoot's only single to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100. I decided to add bass, drums, vocal harmony, and a separate lead acoustic guitar to my acoustic recording because to me, the song never sounds right without these elements. Of course, adding all these elements and learning the parts takes a whole lot more time. Doing a multi-track recording is always a learning experience, at least for me.

The 12-string is my Guild model F512; the acoustic 6-string is my Gibson Advanced Jumbo. The drum samples are from Easy Drummer used in Cubase.

I hope you like this. Thank you for listening!

- Glenn

Ok Glenn, my foot is officially tapping here at the desk tonight!! There might even be a little head bobbing too! LOL! Great sound.....and quite an effort on your part in putting this together. Looks like you thoroughly enjoyed yourself as you laid that track!
Really enjoyed that!
Thanks again,
fred

Thank you Fred!

I'm so glad to read that you like this! Yes, this kind of thing does take a fair amount of effort. But, as I noted in my OP, it's always a learning experience and it was rewarding putting this together.

I always appreciate your comments Fred! Thank you!

Wow, very very nice. That is one of my favorite Gordon Lightfoot songs and I recently learned it well enough to perform in front of "people" other than my wife.

You knocked it out of the park with your 12-string really adding depth to the rhythm part. BRAVO!

Wow, that was great, and you made it sound like a band was playing all at once!

You should have added a few seconds at the end where each band member looks over at the others with different "good job" / "we did it!" expressions.

Hi Steve!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I'm glad you enjoyed this video!

I like your ending suggestion, though it might seem a little self-congratulatory for me to be looking at other versions of myself and commenting, "Alright!!" or "Good job, dude!!"

I very much appreciate your comments!

Great job as usual, Glenn!!! You really get a good sound with your setup. And the performance is always great.

I do this one in my solo set and agree it's is best with added elements. I don't have the bass or drum tracks when I play it live, but do add the harmonies (via H1 pedal) and lead (using my Ditto looper to lay down the rhythm track).

Hi Marty!

Great to hear from you!! Thanks for your comments, thoughts, and kind words about the overall sound! I did put a fair amount of time into the overall mix to try to get the blend of voices and instruments optimized, so it's rewarding to read your positive reactions.

I bet you do a great job on this song live! I have never used a harmonizer, but I have certainly wondered what it would sound like.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment!
