Default Slowing things down

I recently started a thread where I got some very helpful constructive criticism about my playing. The general consensus was that I was playing too fast and the arrangement was too busy.

I've taken on the feedback and am trying something new here. Would be keen to know if this is an improvement. I've included a Soundcloud link to the old arrangement. If you commented in my previous thread you'll know I'm not averse to constructive feedback, so please do let me know what you think and which arrangement you prefer.

Cheers,

Neil

Very nice Neil,

I enjoyed that. I listened only to the video, but I thought it came across well!

Also, good job on the recording. Nice and clean.

Well done!

Very nice, I like this version very much! The guitar arrangement serves the song much better than before

I have to agree with the comments above — this slower playing style is more suited to the song.

Quite nice, actually! So, congratulations.

Thanks very much Glenn, coming from you that means a lot.

That’s great cheers. I wasn’t so sure myself - old habits die hard and I’ve been playing this song fast fingerpicked for over a year.

I think most songs benefit from slowing down a touch. Speed sucks the life out of songs. It removes the dynamics and the chance of any expression. It basically takes away from the performance of a song and replaces it with expediency. I struggle with it myself.

I’m definitely not used to paying slow, was something of a challenge keeping tempo. Will try it on some more songs and get practicing.
