Hey, that was a hoot! The gal playing the little guitar is playing a righty guit strung as a righty, but playing it as a lefty with the strings inverted. I think Doyle Bramhall III plays like that. Neat way of playing with discombobulated chordings that confuses the heck out of me.

Jane,
It’s easier to watch you flat picking upside down than watching Elizabeth Cotton fingerpicking upside down!

Any time a customer would play like that I had a visceral response to it, and had to turn away!

It falls under the heading of ‘Does Not Compute’!

Great job, Jane!

Howard

again, thanks so much, folks, for liking the music & video...

SO, for those of you who haven't heard the original, it was written by Fiddlin' Arthur Smith--who is way up on my list of all-time fave musicians of any genre, era or instrument....

there's a SUPER FAVE anecdote about Arthur: Arthur was fond of bragging on his fiddle, how it was a rare one-of-a-kind instrument, finer than any other in the land, the best fiddle anybody ever fiddled on etc....after years of use, it finally required some repairs and upkeep...it was taken to a luthier who was stunned...he discovered it was like a $3 Sears Roebuck catalog fiddle--at best--held together with tape, spit, thumbtacks and The Grace Of God...the luthier couldn't figger out how Arthur had been managing to get ANY music of the wretched thing at all!

one of those 'what matters most? the skill of the musician or the quality of the instrument?' deals, eh?

here's Arthur his own dang self giving 'Florida Blues' to the world, playing THE GREATEST FIDDLE EVER BUILT, FORGET STRADIVARIUS--WHAT DID HE KNOW?!! :

one more bit about 'Fiddlin' Arthur Smith...his music is beyond any easy category ya can try to pen it up in...this guy was HEARING THINGS...plus he had great bands.....here's a jaw-dropper, Arthur & The Dixieliners (AKA The Delmore Brothers!) translating the music of the spheres with precise abandon and invisible mastery

Way to go young ladies! I'll be Florida-bound for Christmas one of these years. Is it ok to pet the crocodi ?
